A portrait begins long before the camera.

Portrait photography allows us to pause and observe what is often overlooked in everyday life. A glance, a quiet expression, the connection between two people, or the anticipation of a new chapter. My work is rooted in natural light and thoughtful direction so that every portrait reflects the person within it.

I’m Ananeya, a documentary, portrait, and lifestyle photographer

My work is an exploration of people and the stories they carry.

Photography entered my life through curiosity about people and the environments that shape them. Over time that curiosity evolved into a practice centered on portrait, travel, and documentary photography. I have spent years photographing individuals and communities in different parts of the world, learning how light, place, and emotion shape a single frame.

Those experiences continue to influence how I approach portraiture today.

Many of the people I photograph are entering meaningful seasons of life. A professional stepping into a new role. A founder building something of their own. A couple celebrating a commitment. A family preparing to welcome a new child.

My approach begins with observation and conversation before the camera is ever raised. Understanding who someone is allows the portrait to feel natural rather than constructed.

Natural light plays a central role in my work because it reveals expression and character honestly. A glance between two people. The way someone carries themselves. The quiet anticipation present in a maternity portrait.

The goal is not to manufacture an image.

The goal is to create the conditions where presence becomes visible.

Today I photograph professionals, couples, and maternity portraits throughout Washington DC, Northern Virginia, and Maryland. Each session is designed with intention so the resulting images feel composed, authentic, and reflective of the people within them.
